In an article published by Business Insider, writer Joey Hadden shared her experience visiting the Caribbean for the first time aboard Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas. The seven-night cruise included stops in Roatan, Honduras; Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico; and Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas.
Hadden described the cruise as an introduction rather than a full experience, comparing it to watching previews at a movie theater. With only seven hours in each port, she noted it was enough to get a glimpse, but not enough to fully appreciate each destination.

Her first stop was Roatan, where she joined an excursion to Mayan Eden Eco-Park, a nature preserve with hiking trails and wildlife. Highlights included visiting a butterfly sanctuary, trekking through the jungle on Ocelot Mountain, and crossing suspension bridges for the first time. While she enjoyed the guided tour, Hadden reflected that she would have preferred more time to hike, relax in hammocks along the trail, and explore the island’s streets beyond the quick drive through Coxen Hole, Roatan’s capital.
Before leaving, she observed the island from the ship’s deck, noting the homes and streets nestled against the mountainous jungle. The brief visit left her with a clear impression: Roatán was a destination she wanted to return to on her own terms, with more time to discover its natural beauty and culture.
