Salvador Nasralla: Honduran journalist and anti-Corruption leader seeker for presidency grows numbers

Salvador Alejandro Cesar Nasralla Salum, born on January 30, 1953, in Tegucigalpa, has emerged as one of Honduras’s most prominent political figures, combining a decades-long career in journalism with a committed fight against corruption.

Nasralla spent his early childhood in Trujillo before moving back to the capital at age 11. He continued his studies at the Instituto San Francisco, where he excelled academically, graduating as the top student of his class. From a young age, he showed a deep passion for media, beginning his career in radio. He worked with Emisoras Unidas between 1966 and 1969, and later collaborated with Uniradio and Radio Católica. Today, Nasralla is widely recognized as the director and presenter of the television program 5 Deportivo, which has aired uninterrupted for over 40 years.

In addition to his media career, Nasralla is a civil industrial engineer, having graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 1976. He also holds a master’s degree in Business Administration, making him one of the first Hondurans to earn a postgraduate degree at the institution.

Nasralla is married to Iroshka Lindaly Elvir, a finance professional and prominent political figure, and together they have two children: Alicia Lindaly Victoria Nasralla Elvir and Salvador Jr. Nasralla Elvir.

In 2012, Nasralla founded the first anti-corruption political party in the world, aiming to address long-standing corruption in Honduras by pursuing the presidency. He first ran in the 2017 presidential elections, where he initially led the vote count with 72% of the ballots counted. However, his apparent victory was overturned amid widespread reports of electoral fraud, allowing Juan Orlando Hernández to assume office.

Today, Salvador Nasralla remains a central figure in Honduran politics, advocating transparency, accountability, and reform. His longstanding public presence in both media and politics has made him a household name and a symbol of resistance against corruption in Honduras.
