In October 2025, the national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline dropped to about $3.05, with several states showing averages well under $3.00. For example, in states like Oklahoma the average is around $2.56 per gallon.
Such a drop is meaningful: the last time the nationwide average dipped below $3.00 was back in May 2021. The decline in pump prices signals relief for motorists, freeing up discretionary income and easing one area of household cost pressure.

President Trump, during his 2024-2025 campaign and early term, made the economy—and particularly affordable energy and fuel—a central theme of his message. His policy agenda emphasized American energy production, deregulation of fossil fuel industries, and a “fuel-self-reliant” posture. For instance, the Wells Fargo Investment Institute noted that immigration and trade moves preceded tax-cut and deregulation efforts under his economic policy outline.
