Thousands of Hondurans are expected to take to the streets across the country today to commemorate National Bible Day, an annual observance held on the last Sunday of September.
The Bible, the most widely read book in the world, plays a central role in Honduran religious and cultural life. It is used not only in churches across all denominations but also in classrooms at evangelical and Catholic schools.
National Bible Day was formally established in Honduras in 1987 through Legislative Decree 157-87, making the country one of only two in Latin America to enshrine the observance by law. The initiative was introduced by Bay Islands congressman Glen Solomon and has been celebrated every year since.
Commemorations typically include processions through major cities, where participants carry Bibles and display biblical messages as a public tribute to the sacred text.
