In the midst of growing environmental concerns in Camp Bay, one development has taken steps to address the issue of runoff and preserve the natural landscape. Las Vistas at Camp Bay Beach, led by developer Blaine Bell, has shared with ARC+ the measures she is implementing to minimize environmental impact and help restore the surrounding ecosystem.

According to Bell, the team has constructed retaining rock walls designed to slow down and redirect the flow of rainwater. These structures help prevent erosion, reduce sediment from reaching the shoreline, and create natural water filtration before the runoff makes its way downhill. This method is commonly used in environmentally conscious projects, as it works with the landscape rather than against it.
In addition to the rock walls, Bell shared that they have begun replanting vegetation in areas where trees had to be removed for road access. The effort includes the planting of palm trees, bamboo, and plantain trees, along with other species intended to stabilize the soil and restore greenery. Bamboo, in particular, is known for its strong root system, which helps hold soil in place and prevent further erosion.
“These are some — but not all — of the trees that have already been planted,” Bell explained, noting that the project aims to ensure that any removed vegetation is replaced with sustainable, soil-supporting species.
Bell emphasized that the goal of Las Vistas at Camp Bay is to pursue an ecologically mindful development, one that maintains the natural beauty of Camp Bay and respects the surrounding environment. While development in protected and sensitive areas continues to raise valid concerns, the measures taken by Las Vistas aim to contribute positively to the area rather than degrade it.
Gustavo Isnardi, a Roatan native shared about Blaine's work "As the team that handled the pavement works for Las Vistas, I can say firsthand that Blaine has always been very intentional about doing things the right way. Every decision on-site has consistently prioritized environmental responsibility and long-term sustainability for Camp Bay. It’s great to see the project progressing so well and staying true to that commitment. Kudos to you Blaine!Admirable work and an excellent example of responsible development in Roatán."
The photos provided by the development show the early stages of these restoration efforts, illustrating the combination of structural and natural solutions being used to manage runoff and support reforestation. As environmental responsibility continues to be a central topic across the Bay Islands, efforts like these demonstrate an attempt to balance growth with conservation — a balance that many residents hope becomes the standard moving forward.
