Roatan’s Mango Creek Lodge featured among top Caribbean overwater bungalow resorts

The international travel magazine Caribbean Journal has named Mango Creek Lodge among its list of “10 Caribbean Overwater Bungalow Resorts That Are Still Under the Radar.” The feature highlights some of the region’s most authentic and lesser-known stays — and Roatan’s secluded south-shore retreat earned a well-deserved spot.

Tucked inside a protected bay surrounded by mangroves, Mango Creek Lodge offers a handful of colorful overwater cabanas that sit above calm, turquoise waters. The resort’s small size is exactly what gives it its charm. Instead of large crowds and high-rise hotels, guests find themselves in a quiet world of wooden walkways, warm breezes, and views of untouched Caribbean nature.

According to Caribbean Journal, what makes Mango Creek special is its “rustic, intimate kind of luxury.” Guests fall asleep to the sound of waves, wake to sunlight filtering through the bay, and spend their days kayaking, snorkeling, or simply floating in the sun. It’s the kind of experience that blends comfort with simplicity — the essence of Roatan’s appeal.

The magazine also praised the resort’s strong sense of place, noting that visitors feel “embedded in the landscape, not just adjacent to it.” That harmony with the island’s natural environment is something Mango Creek has emphasized for years. The property sits near the traditional fishing community of Oak Ridge, one of Roatán’s most culturally rich and scenic areas.

To reach the lodge, travelers fly into Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport (RTB) and take a 30-minute drive to Oak Ridge, where staff provide a short boat transfer to the overwater cabanas.
